68-year-old Dr. John Westerkamm of TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center had a single-vehicle accident near his Morgan Road residence on July 5th. Responding officers observed Westerkamm’s blue BMW overturned, blocking the westbound travel lane. Officers then found Westerkamm being assessed by NFD personnel. When asked about the incident, Westerkamm told officers he was on the phone with his sister when he overcorrected and crashed. Westerkamm then admitted to having two glasses of scotch about two hours before the collision. He consented to sobriety tests and performed poorly. After being informed of implied consent, Westerkamm agreed to provide a breath sample. After officers were unable to obtain a sufficient sample after two attempts, Westerkamm was taken into custody for driving under the influence.
