85-year-old Christine Powell was seen traveling over the fog line in a white Buick sedan on July 13th. Powell abruptly braked before she was close to the stop bar on Franklin Limestone Road, causing other vehicles to do the same. Officers observed this and conducted a traffic stop. When officers made contact with Powell, they noticed her showing signs of intoxication as well as the smell of alcohol coming from her car. Powell was asked how many drinks she had, to which she confessed that she had “two vodkas.” Powell acted very slow to officers’ requests for her driver’s license, registration, and insurance. This led to officers asking her to perform sobriety tests. Powell consented but performed “extremely” poorly on them. Officers read her implied consent, and she refused to provide a blood sample. Powell was then taken into custody for driving under the influence and implied consent violation.
