42-year-old Michael Wayne Lopp drove his white GMC Sierra over a curb in the VA Hospital parking lot around 9:23 p.m. on May 22nd. Lopp then proceeded to drive the wrong way down a one-way road. VA officers Joseph Gregory and Justin Ray Juracek observed this and approached the driver, later identified as Lopp. They noticed he reeked of alcohol and showed signs of intoxication. During their interaction, officers found numerous open alcohol containers in the bed of his truck, and Lopp informed them that he “consumed a few alcoholic beverages about two hours ago.” Then, VUPD officers located Lopp, conducted a traffic stop, and requested that he exit his truck, which he did. While exiting his vehicle, Lopp used his vehicle for balance before VUPD deemed him impaired. Then, officers discovered Lopp had a prior DUI conviction from December 2014 in Lawrence County. After detaining him, Lopp declined sobriety tests but agreed to provide a blood sample. Officers searched Lopp’s GMC Sierra and located 14 open alcoholic beverages in his truck bed. Lopp was taken into custody for driving under the influence on May 23rd.
