34-year-old Harold Whitacre left the scene after crashing into several objects on Gillock Street early May 24th. A bystander observed this and alerted the authorities, advising that a driver, later identified as Whitacre, pulled into their Gillock Street residence and exited his vehicle. The caller left and then later returned. When officers arrived, they located Whitacre, who reeked of alcohol near the front porch, showing signs of intoxication as he denied being the involved driver several times. The vehicle was severely damaged, missing a bumper, emitting smoke, and leaking an unknown chemical, which made a trail to the scene. Then, officers attempted to detain him, during which Whitacre resisted until they could handcuff him. During a show-up, the caller positively identified Whitacre. After being read implied consent, he refused to provide a chemical sample. Whitacre was taken into custody for leaving the scene of an accident, resisting arrest, driving under the influence, and an implied consent violation.
