21-year-old Tiffaney Faith Cockrell was taken into custody for driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance, and driving with a suspended license on June 8th. Officers observed Cockrell speeding and conducted a traffic stop. During the stop, she denied having anything to drink and showed signs of impairment. Officers prompted her with sobriety tests, which she consented to and performed poorly. Under Miranda, she admitted to taking medication two days prior and to drinking the past couple of days. After being informed of implied consent, she agreed to provide a blood sample. During a subsequent search, officers located a white powdery substance in her purse, which Cockrell said she believed was cocaine because her friend had her purse. However, before the search, under Miranda, Cockrell had admitted the purse was hers. She was then detained for the occurrence.
