21-year-old Jessie Matthews was observed walking on the center travel lane and impeding traffic on Dickerson Pike on June 28th. Matthews made sporadic and erratic movements, including running to the sidewalk, appearing as if he was going to enter traffic, and darting back to the center lane, causing traffic to stop. Officers noticed this and escorted him from the middle lane. Officers saw that Matthews’ pupils were pinpointed as he sweated profusely and fidgeted while scratching himself. When officers asked him why he was so amped up, he told them he had chugged about five Redbulls and saw a snake. Then, officers detained him, during which Matthews yelled, “How did you know I was high?” Matthews went on to clarify that he was only amped up due to the Redbulls, stating, “That’s not what heroin does.” During a subsequent search, officers found a lottery ticket containing a white paste in his pockets. The white paste was later identified as Heroin. Before stopping Matthews, officers confirmed that he was seen on camera stealing $25 worth of merchandise from the Dickerson Pike Family Dollar. Matthews was taken into custody for simple possession, public intoxication, and theft.
Jessie R. Matthews of Benjamin St in Nashville, TN, was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on June 28th, charged with public intoxication, theft, and possession or casual exchange. A judicial commissioner set his bond at $2,100, and the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office gave him pre-trial release from their facility.
