33-year-old Matthew Travis McElroy caused a disturbance at Vanderbilt University Hospital late July 7th. VUPD officers arrived and observed McElroy exiting the lobby with security. He was yelling that he had been hit by a car and that nobody cared. VUPD noticed he had a firearm on his right hip despite the hospital prohibiting weapons. Officers asked if they could escort him to the Emergency Department and offered him a wheelchair. McElroy refused all medical treatment, so officers asked him to leave several times. McElroy refused and continued screaming, demanding that VUPD leave. He was then detained for the occurrence. While on the way to booking, he complained of a headache and was transported back to Vanderbilt to be cleared. McElroy was taken into custody for unlawful possession of a weapon, criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct on July 10th.
