23-year-old Makenzie Lockridge was involved in a domestic dispute with her ex-girlfriend, Nicole Tolvert, at her Grove Dale Trace residence on April 10th. Tolvert contacted law enforcement, saying that Lockridge kicked in her back door and had a gun in her hand. Tolvert stated that Lockridge never pointed the gun at her, but she was scared. Tolvert then left through the front door and called 911. When officers arrived, they observed Lockridge looking through the living room window. Once they instructed her to put her hands up, she informed officers that she had a handgun inside her fanny pack. When officers Mirandized Lockridge, she told them that she had been living at the residence and that Tolvert had told her she had to leave by Thursday. Lockridge stated that she had been trying to get her things together, so she returned to the residence, but Tolvert locked her out. Lockridge then kicked in the already damaged back door to enter. According to Lockridge, the fanny pack containing the gun was around her chest the whole time, and she never attempted to grab it. Lockridge also said that she only briefly saw Tolvert while getting her belongings. Law enforcement spoke with Tolvert again on April 16th. Tolvert, in that meeting, decided to prosecute because she stated that she had felt scared and traumatized for a “good period of time.” Lockridge was later taken into custody on July 18th for domestic assault.
