19-year-old Elijah Onyeama was involved in a domestic altercation with his girlfriend, Olivia Williams, at their Stone Ridge apartment on July 31st. When officers arrived, they met and spoke with Williams about the incident. Williams stated that during an argument with Onyeama, he shoulder-bumped her out of the way, so she poured beer on his head. As Williams was pouring the beer, Onyeama approached her and punched her in the face. Williams told officers that he punched her so hard that she almost fell.
Onyeama proceeded to grab Williams by her throat and throw her to the ground. Once Williams was on the ground, Onyeama mounted her and began to strangle her, causing her to lose consciousness for multiple seconds. Williams stated that after regaining consciousness, she was able to kick Onyeama off of her and call 911. While interacting with Williams, officers observed bruises and scratches on her neck. Officers also noticed that her voice was hoarse, which is consistent with strangulation. Onyeama was not present while officers were on the scene. Onyeama was later found and taken into custody for aggravated domestic assault.
Elijah M. Onyeama was booked into the Metro Nashville Jail on July 31st, charged with aggravated assault. A judicial commissioner set his bond at $20,000.
