26-year-old Chasidy Lauderdale was involved in a domestic disturbance with her boyfriend, Maurice Jackson, at their Delaware Avenue residence on August 17th. Officers received a call from Lauderdale stating that Jackson hit her in the head. When officers arrived, they observed a black male walking from the house. After confronting him, he identified himself as Tyler Corcoran. Corcoran informed officers that he lived with Lauderdale and Jackson and that while he was lying on the couch, he was woken up by what he reported sounded like fighting. Corcoran then told officers that he saw Lauderdale punching Jackson in the head and face while they were coming downstairs.

During the officers’ discussion with Corcoran, they noticed Lauderdale coming out of the front door. When officers attempted to interview her about the incident, they reported that she seemed evasive and that she could not provide detailed facts about what happened. Even when officers tried to explain that she needed a more accurate account of what happened, she was still unable to do so. Officers did, however, notice redness on her forehead and a scratch on the back of her neck.

While officers waited for another unit to arrive, they were able to speak with Jackson, who they noticed had visible bruising on his cheek. Jackson stated that while he was in the backyard with his friends, Lauderdale came outside, knocked over his grill, and then accused him of breaking her laptop. Jackson informed officers that he had bought the laptop and that it was his. Jackson stated that once he made his way toward the staircase to create distance from Lauderdale, she followed him and started punching him in the head. When he attempted to go back downstairs, Lauderdale continued to hit him and yell at him, so he flailed his arms and pushed her to get her off of him. This led to both of them calling 911.

Once the other unit arrived to gather more information from Lauderdale, she again gave vague statements about the incident. Lauderdale told officers that “They were both arguing over the laptop and that things escalated and that they were hitting each other.” When officers initially asked if she had knocked over the grill, Lauderdale told them she never did that. However, she later admitted that she had left the house to cool off and had ended up pushing the grill. Law enforcement later determined that Lauderdale was the primary aggressor due to the witness’s statement as well as Lauderdale telling the 911 operator that Jackson had been drinking and doing drugs even though he seemed to them very coherent and alert. Chasidy Lauderdale was then taken into custody and charged with assault.
