DUI: Aubrey Hawes brakes after seeing cops while swerving between lanes on I-24

28-year-old Aubrey Chase Hawes was observed speeding on I-24 in the early hours of August 1st. Officers noticed Hawes going 75 mph while changing lanes. Then, when Hawes saw the police, he tried to brake at the last minute. However, officers initiated a traffic stop, and Hawes pulled over to the right shoulder. Officers approached the passenger side and asked Hawes for his driver’s license. As they did this, they smelled a strong alcoholic odor emitting from the vehicle. Officers then prompted Hawes with sobriety tests. Hawes consented and performed poorly on the tests. During pre-field test questioning, Hawes admitted to drinking before driving. Hawes was then taken into custody for driving under the influence.

Tina Finney flees police officers after being suspected of helping person escape arrest

78-year-old Tina Finney was suspected of aiding an individual with a warrant to escape arrest on August 1st. Officers located Finney driving and conducted an investigational stop. After police activated their lights, Finney disregarded them and continued driving down Old Hickory Boulevard. Finney continued to ignore officers until she turned onto Plantation Drive. Then, she turned on her 4-way flashers but kept driving until she reached her Bonnafield Drive residence. Officers then approached the vehicle and asked Finney to exit, which she did. However, when officers grabbed her wrist to detain her, she tensed up. After a brief struggle, officers arrested her. Finney was taken into custody for evading arrest by motor vehicle and resisting arrest. 

Wafeek Habib caught with fake international driver’s license, tells officers his friend made it for him

38-year-old Wafeek Habib was driving down Murfreesboro Pike with no lights on his vehicle on late July 5th. Officers observed this and initiated a traffic stop at the Mount View Road and Murfreesboro Pike intersection. During the stop, they asked Habib for his driver’s credentials. Habib gave officers an international driver’s license, stating he was born in the United States despite his telling them he was born in Egypt. Then, when police questioned him about where the driver’s license was issued, he told them that he had not received it from a government agency but that a friend made it for him. Habib further explained that he had been a resident of the US for about six months and had never obtained a driver’s license. Officers seized his false international license for evidence and cited him for the incident. Habib was later booked on the citation of using false identification on July 30th.

Brian Pap assaults girlfriend during altercation, tells police his injuries were from “packing”

45-year-old Brian Pap had a domestic altercation with his girlfriend, Anna Albrecht, on August 1st. Officers observed Pap and conducted a stop. During this, they noticed Pap had blood on his shirt, bruising on his hands and right foot. Pap told officers that the injuries came from “packing” before denying having a scuffle with Albrecht. Officers saw that Albrecht had two red marks on her neck, inconsistent with their statements. A witness advised the police that Pap and Albrecht were physically fighting, adding that Pap was the primary aggressor. Pap was then taken into custody for domestic assault.

Tiffany Rhone steals $1,500 worth of tobacco products from Twice Daily Convenience Store

37-year-old Tiffany Rhone was caught stealing tobacco products from a Twice Daily Convenience store on 12th Avenue South on May 4th. Rhone was captured on camera with three other suspects. One of the suspects took out a large rock from a bag and struck the front glass multiple times, while another suspect kicked the glass in. The group then entered the store through the broken glass and stole a significant amount of tobacco-related products valued at $1,500. After leaving the scene, Rhone and the others were seen heading in the same direction they came from. One of the other suspects was arrested and confessed to the crime, identifying Rhone to officers from the camera footage. Before the burglary, Rhone was also spotted on cameras near Deford Bailey Avenue. Later that morning, she was seen with the other suspects going to another apartment, where one of them admitted to selling the stolen tobacco products. Rhone was then deemed an accomplice, and a warrant was issued for her arrest. Rhone was later found and taken into custody for failure to appear, organized retail crime, burglary, and theft of merchandise on August 1st.

Calvin Varnado hits girlfriend in face several times during argument on Lakeshore Drive

37-year-old Calvin Varnado was involved in a domestic altercation with his girlfriend, Jenni Wofford, during a car ride home on April 8th. Wofford reported that Varnado got hostile with her during an argument and hit her in the face several times. An hour later, Wofford contacted 911 for assistance. During the call, dispatch could hear what sounded like a scuffle and Wofford screaming that she and Varnado were on Lakeshore Drive. Wofford reported that during the assault, Varnado continued to swing at her, so she swung back at him to defend herself. Wofford was unable to give officers a specific location for where the assault took place but that she was in Davidson County and that she was close to Lakeshore Drive. At that moment, Varnado stopped the car at a Lakeshore residence then pushed and kicked her out of the passenger seat. Wofford was observed with scratches all over her body and a bruised and bloody lip. Varnado was later taken into custody and charged with two counts of domestic assault on July 31st.

Robert Lange attempts to stab security officers at Fifth Third Center with drill bit

44-year-old Robert Lange was seen trying to stab security officers with a drill bit at the Fifth Third Center on July 31st. When officers arrived, security had Lange detained. Security officers Smith and Massiah informed officers that when they had asked Lange to leave multiple times. They stated when they approached him, he became aggressive and took a fighting stance. While in the stance, Lange attempted to stab both of them with a drill bit. Despite this, security was able to assist each other and take possession of the drill bit. Lange was then taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault.

Jessica Washburn assaults ex-boyfriend during fight with new boyfriend

42-year-old Jessica Washburn was involved in a domestic altercation with her ex-boyfriend and children’s father, Preston Thompson, at a Summitt Avenue residence on June 16th. When officers arrived on the scene, they spoke with Washburn. She stated that when she and Chancellor Barker, her new boyfriend, arrived at the residence, they wanted to talk to her daughter and retrieve her daughter’s phone inside the residence. As Washburn entered the residence, Thompson walked outside and approached Barker to shake his hand. Barker then punched Thompson, and the two began fighting outside.

After this, Washburn and Coy Thompson, Preston’s brother, walked outside and witnessed the fight. Officers then met with Coy, who stated that he observed Washburn attempt to hit Preston several times and take off her shoe to hit him with it. Coy also claims that he thought he pulled Washburn away before she hit Preston with the shoe, but it is unknown if she struck Preston. Once Coy separated the parties, Washburn pushed Thompson again before she and Barker fled. Officers then made contact and spoke with Preston, who stated that he did feel assaulted by Washburn when asked if he felt assaulted by her. A warrant was issued, and Washburn was later found and taken into custody for domestic assault.

Jason Napper steals Gatorade from Walgreens, tells manager “I’ll come into the store whenever I want”

44-year-old Jason Dean Napper had an altercation with Samantha Cadwell, a manager, at the Gallatin Pike North Walgreens on July 31st. Cadwell told responding officers that Napper comes into the establishment and shoplifts daily. Cadwell then stated that around noon, Napper entered the store and grabbed a Gatorade. Cadwell stated she told Napper he needed to leave and was not allowed to be there. Cadwell said that Napper then got in her face with his fist balled up and told her, “I’ll come into the store whenever I want,” which placed her in fear. She said that after this, he walked out of the location with the Gatorade without paying for it. Cadwell provided the police with surveillance of the incident. Officers later located Napper at Bar-B-Cutie Smokehouse wearing the same clothes he had on in the video and detained him. Then, officers conducted a “show-up” with Cadwell, and she identified him as the person in question. The police could not cite him for the occurrence because he had too many FTAs and FTBs. Napper was then taken into custody for assault and theft.

Elijah Onyeama punches, strangles girlfriend for pouring beer on him during argument

19-year-old Elijah Onyeama was involved in a domestic altercation with his girlfriend, Olivia Williams, at their Stone Ridge apartment on July 31st. When officers arrived, they met and spoke with Williams about the incident. Williams stated that during an argument with Onyeama, he shoulder-bumped her out of the way, so she poured beer on his head. As Williams was pouring the beer, Onyeama approached her and punched her in the face. Williams told officers that he punched her so hard that she almost fell. Onyeama proceeded to grab Williams by her throat and throw her to the ground. Once Williams was on the ground, Onyeama mounted her and began to strangle her, causing her to lose consciousness for multiple seconds. Williams stated that after regaining consciousness, she was able to kick Onyeama off of her and call 911. While interacting with Williams, officers observed bruises and scratches on her neck. Officers also noticed that her voice was hoarse, which is consistent with strangulation. Onyeama was not present while officers were on the scene. Onyeama was later found and taken into custody for aggravated domestic assault.
