Julianna Hobbs strangles ex-boyfriend during argument over phone

19-year-old Julianna Hobbs was involved in a domestic altercation with her ex-boyfriend, Ryder Peele, at his St. Edwards Drive apartment residence on June 27th. Once officers arrived, they spoke with Hobbs, who claimed that while she was at Peele’s residence, there was a physical altercation that happened. Hobbs told officers the incident started with a verbal argument over her potentially being pregnant as well as a dispute over a phone. Hobbs claimed that she reached out to take her phone from Peele’s hands during the argument. According to Hobbs, when Peele leaned forward, her hand had somehow wrapped around his throat. Hobbs informed officers that she wasn’t making an attempt to assault Peele, and in response to her attempt to retrieve the phone and strangle him, Peele struck her in the chest and on the right side of her head. Officers did not observe any signs of injury on Hobbs’s chest; however, they observed a slight bruise on her head, so she was transported to a local area hospital. Peele had also called for officers at his residence. Peele told officers that a verbal altercation occurred between him and Hobbs, which Hobbs escalated. Peele told officers that during the altercation, Hobbs had grabbed him by the neck with a tight squeeze, causing Peele to have a restricted airway but no loss of consciousness. Peele claimed that he did not react at first because he did not want to put his hands on Hobbs. However, he felt like she would not let go of his neck, so in self-defense, he pushed Hobbs away. Peele informed officers that there was a likelihood that Hobbs might have struck a nearby door frame, but he had no intention of that and just wanted to free himself. Officers then spoke with Ms Ceron-Garcia, who is Peeles’ mother. Garcia told officers that there was a mutual verbal altercation between Peele and Hobbs, and during that altercation, Peele did ask Hobbs to leave the location. Garcia claims that at this point, Hobbs did grab Peele by the throat, and he defended himself by pushing Hobbs away from him. Based on the statements given, Hobbs was deemed the primary aggressor, and she was taken into custody for aggravated assault.
