DUI: Jermiaha Smith smokes with 1-year-old child in vehicle while driving with no lights on

19-year-old Jermiaha Smith was seen driving under the influence at an intersection of Gallatin Pike South and Hickory Street on August 31st. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at the intersection after they observed a black truck driving with its headlights and taillights off at night. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers observed a 1-year-old child in the vehicle’s backseat. Officers then made contact with Smith and noticed she was smoking a tobacco product. When asked, Smith claimed to officers that she was not smoking marijuana but later admitted that about an hour and 45 minutes prior, she had smoked marijuana. Officers also noticed a bag of marijuana in plain sight in the center console that Smith informed officers was hers. Smith was then asked to step out of the vehicle and perform sobriety tests, which she accepted. However, she performed poorly on all tests given and showed numerous indicators of impairment. Officers then searched her vehicle, and the search yielded 20 grams of marijuana that were inside her vehicle. Smith was deemed to be intoxicated, and she was then taken into custody for driving under the influence with a child and possession of a controlled substance on September 1st.

DUI: Crystal Fennell whips children while high on drugs at Waffle House

41-year-old Crystal Fennell was jailed on March 3rd after complaints of a woman pushing her kids and swinging a whip at them inside the Waffle House on Old Hickory Boulevard. Witnesses stated that Fennell had entered the restaurant with two children and began behaving erratically. During this time, the witness observed Fennell push both children and swing a whip at them. Officers tried to speak with Fennell, but she wasn’t making sense. From their professional experience, the officers believed that Fennell was under the influence of either meth or cocaine due to her behavior. Officers determined the abused children were ages 5 and 6 and belonged to Fennell. Officers also discovered that she was in possession of a multi-lashed whip.

Multiple complainants stated they saw Fennell arrive, driving a white Chevrolet suburban. Officers decided that it was unsafe for Fennell to perform sobriety tests due to her fidgeting and constant pulling away, fearing Fennell would run into traffic.

When Fennell was arrested, she began complaining of chest pains, to which officers requested an ambulance. While at Nashville General Hospital, she admitted to drinking some alcohol and then spat in Officer Heaton’s face. Crystal Fennell was taken into custody on March 3rd for assault on an officer, DUI with a child, and two counts of child abuse.

DUI: Zachary Gibbs has multiple shots before causing crash with his child in the car

19-year-old Zachary Gibbs was jailed on December 29th after causing a crash on I-40. Gibbs told officers on the scene that he lost control after a box truck collided with him in a road rage incident. Several witnesses corroborated his story. Gibbs’ wife and 1-year-old daughter were in the car during the collision. Both were transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. During a search of the vehicle, officers located the cap of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s seat. Officers also observed a partially empty bottle of Jack Daniels next to the car. Officers checked to see if the cap fit the bottle, and it did. While at the hospital, officers could smell alcohol coming from Gibbs’ breath when he admitted to having one shot. Gibbs was then asked to perform sobriety tests. After performing poorly, he stated that he had had three shots the night before. A breath sample was taken, resulting in .060% BAC. Given the fact that over two hours had passed since the accident, officers had probable cause to arrest Gibbs for driving under the influence with a child. Gibbs also later admitted to driving without a license.

Musician Hannah Fairlight arrested after playing drunken bumper cars with her children in the vehicle

Nashville Police say 36-year-old Nashville musician Hannah Fairlight Schleuder had dinner and drinks at an East Nashville restaurant Wednesday evening with her two children, and when finished she placed them in the minivan with her and proceeded to play what can only be described as a game of drunken bumper cars in the parking lot of the location at 3917 Gallatin Pike. Officers arrived to find the front bumper of her own vehicle ripped off and lying on the payment. Hannah Fairlight had hit multiple vehicles in the parking lot, including the vehicle of one man who took the keys from her and brought them to the restaurant manager, reporting she was drunk driving in the parking lot with her two children in the vehicle.

Hannah was so intoxicated she was unable to properly provide police with the names and birthdays of her two children in the vehicle with her, ages 2 and 6. She claimed one of her children was born in the year 2025. She was charged with DUI 2nd (she has a prior Williamson County conviction from 2019), and two counts of felony child endangerment. She is free on a $32,000 bond.
