DUI: Fort Campbell Soldier Devante Hopkins passes out in car at 7-Eleven

29-year-old Fort Campbell Soldier Devante Hopkins was found passed out behind the wheel at the 7-Eleven gas station on Broadway in the early hours of August 3rd. When officers arrived, medics advised them that Hopkins was unresponsive in the driver’s seat with his gear in drive. They also told the police they tried knocking on his windows several times. Then, officers approached Hopkins and spoke with him, during which they noticed he reeked of alcohol and had slurred speech. Officers then asked Hopkins to turn his vehicle off and exit it, but he was uncooperative. Hopkins would not answer the police’s questions and declined to take sobriety tests, so he was detained for the incident. After being Mirandized and informed of implied consent, Hopkins refused to provide a chemical sample, prompting officers to obtain a warrant for a blood draw. Hopkins was transported to Nashville General Hospital and then taken into custody for driving under the influence.
