Matthew Delaney yells at father, gets aggressive with police outside Nudie’s Honky Tonk

23-year-old Matthew Delaney was observed arguing with his father near Nudie’s Honky Tonk late August 10th. A concerned citizen noticed this and flagged officers down on 4th Avenue and Broadway. When officers approached the location, they noticed two men, later identified as Delaney and his father, yelling at each other. Then, officers spoke with Delaney’s father, who stated that everything was fine and that he was speaking with his son. The police advised them that it was not the time or place for that and to leave. At this point, Delaney stepped up and appeared confrontational as he told the officer, “Take your f*cking hand out of your pocket!” Then, officers told him to step back and to be on his way.

After this, Sergeant Alexander spoke with Delaney and entered Nudie’s to verify something. Delaney approached officers and told them about the excessive use of force. Officers then told him they had nothing to do with what happened at the bar. Delaney replied, “You had f*cking everything to do with it!” while getting closer to the officers. Officers noted Delaney was so close that his saliva landed on the officer as he spoke. After this, the officer placed his right hand on Delaney’s chest and tried to push him back, advising him not to get too close. Delaney responded by slapping the officer’s hand and telling him, “Do not f*cking touch me!” During their interaction, officers noticed Delaney reeked of alcohol and showed signs of impairment, so they went to detain him. However, Delaney swiped the officer’s hands, forcing them to use an over-the-hip takedown to arrest him. Delaney was then taken into custody for public intoxication.
