DUI: Steven Simpson attempts to drive away to avoid talking to police officers

49-year-old Steven Simpson was involved in an incident with his wife on September 2nd in the 6th Avenue South and Peabody Street area. When officers arrived, they observed Simpson in the driver’s seat of his car with the engine running. Officers then observed Simpson pull out of his parking spot to avoid speaking to them. Once officers made contact with Simpson, they reported that they smelled the apparent odor of alcohol coming from Simpson, as well as other signs of intoxication. While speaking with officers, Simpson admitted that he had been drinking before he started driving. Simson agreed to perform sobriety tests, but he showed signs of impairment, so he was taken into custody. After being read implied consent, Simpson initially consented to provide a breath sample, but once he was transported to booking, he no longer wanted to do it. Simpson was then charged with driving under the influence and implied consent violation.
