DUI: William Alexander crashes on interstate with two pounds of THC gummies & joint

27-year-old William Cagle Alexander drove a U-Haul truck into a concrete wall on I-40 East near Mile Marker 208.6 in the early hours of May 22nd. When officers arrived, they noticed the U-Haul truck disabled with heavy front-end damage and a white dump truck in front of it. They spoke with the dump truck driver, who stated they were working in the left-hand lane with digital signs, informing traffic to move over when Alexander struck the vehicle from behind. Alexander told officers he saw the truck and thought it was still moving despite the digital signs. During their interaction, they noticed he showed signs of impairment and smelled slightly like alcohol, so they prompted him with sobriety tests, which he consented to and performed poorly.

They detained him and searched his vehicle, where they located a 2-pound 7-ounce bag of Delta 9 THC gummies on the passenger floorboard and a partially smoked marijuana joint. After being informed of implied consent, he declined to provide them with a chemical sample, so they obtained a warrant for a blood draw. Alexander was transported to Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital and was taken into custody for driving under the influence- 2nd offense and felony drug possession.
