Zorinna Johnson caught driving in stolen Mercedes Benz during traffic stop over cell phone

24-year-old Zorinna Tymetrous-Dashay Johnson was driving a black Mercedes Benz with her cell phone in her right hand on I-65 South near Mile Marker 79.6 late August 29th. Patrolling officers observed this and initiated a traffic stop. Officers discovered that her temporary tag was not on file during the stop. Then, they approached and spoke with Johnson, who admitted to being on her phone. Johnson stated that the plate was not on file because it was not her car. After this, Johnson allowed officers to retrieve the VIN and ran it through the system. The system showed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in 2022 from a Car Max dealership located on Powell Avenue. As officers detained Johnson, she said she wanted her purse to go to jail with her. Officers searched her bag and found keys to the Mercedes with a Car Max accessory on her keyring. They also noticed her plate was fraudulent and discovered it was covering a Car Max sign after removing it. The police later found another fake temporary plate in the glove box and 5 more in the trunk. Johnson was taken into custody for using fake plates and vehicle theft.
